BOBBY MOTTOLA: is the owner and President of Pizzeria Gusto. With over 13 years experience as an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry, Bobby has gained a great deal of experience to successfully operate his own ventures. In 2008, he opened Pizzeria Gusto, which instantly gained a reputation as being one of Winnipeg’s most notable and successful restaurants. On a daily basis, Bobby ensures that his vision for the restaurant is executed through on-site management at a micro level. He realizes that every client holds the key to PG’s ongoing success, so he meticulously focuses on ensuring that every detail of the Pizzeria Gusto experience is brought to life for each client.
DON MOTTOLA: is Bobby’s father, and has been actively involved in the operations of Pizzeria Gusto since the restaurant first opened, in 2008. After spending 30 years in sales and marketing roles within the garment industry, Don ventured down a new career path. In doing so, he focused his expertise on the Insurance business, while partnering with his son in a venture on Corydon Avenue. After Bobby’s venture became an immediate success, Don soon shifted his focus to assist Bobby on a full-time basis. As the current CFO for Pizzeria Gusto, Don also collaborates on all marketing strategies for the venture.
Jesse Friesen: has been the Chef at Pizzeria Gusto since May 2016. Starting at a young age, Jesse has been working in restaurants since the age of 13. Beginning in the front of house, bussing tables and washing dishes, Jesse knew he wanted to be in the kitchen for a living. Working at many popular Winnipeg Restaurants, hotels & clubs since his introduction to the kitchen, Jesse has settled in as the head chef at Pizzeria Gusto, one of Winnipeg’s top Italian restaurants. Over ten years since his introduction to the restaurant industry, Jesse started off as a sous chef at 295 York, a prestigious steak house, then quickly rose through the kitchen ranks to the position of Executive Chef. After 6 years of service in one of downtown Winnipeg’s top restaurants, Jesse decided to join the Gusto Group, a Winnipeg restaurant group with such restaurants as The Merchant Kitchen and their signature restaurant where Jesse has taken the reigns of the kitchen; Pizzeria Gusto. Jesse is an active member of the CCFCC, a member of the Red River College Alumni & holds the rank Maitre Rotisseur in the Winnipeg Chapter of les Chaine des Rotisseurs. Jesse is also a member of the Provincial Culinary Team who returned from IKA Culinary Olympics in Erfurt Germany late October of 2016. The team brought home two bronze medals and 3 other outstanding achievement awards. Just recently, Jesse competed for his second time at the Gold Medal Plates in Winnipeg. In 2015, he received the silver medal for a dish of cured scallops pairing the Jay Stellar Sparkling. In 2016, Jesse received the gold medal as well as the Gold Medal Plate for his dish of southern tuna tartare paired with 30 Bench Riesling. Jesse will be representing Pizzeria Gusto, as well as the province of Manitoba at the Canadian Culinary Championships in Kelowna this February.
Suzy Afif: is currently the Restaurant Manager at Pizzeria Gusto. Prior to working at the restaurant, she spent 4 years completing her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in behavioral neuroscience. Over the first three summers of her undergraduate degree, Suzy came back to Winnipeg and worked in the hospitality industry. After graduating, she began working full-time with Bobby, in 2008, to help open Pizzeria Gusto. During this time, she has been instrumental in building a loyal clientele for the restaurant through her innate ability to connect with people. Additionally, Suzy’s outstanding leadership skills have been recognized through her ability to develop an award winning customer service team.
Dr. Ken Kasper: Dr Somm... Recently successfully completed his wine sommelier training in October of 2013 at the inaugral Canadian Association of professional Sommelier's (CAPS) course: Manitoba division which took place at Banville and Jones wine institiute in 2012-2013 . His fellow sommelier classmates call him Vinkenzo for his love of Italian Wine. The wine list at Pizzeria Gusto is 100% Italian and we do our best to bring some of the most innovative and exciting wines from Italy. VinItaly is his favorite destination as we search for new wines to bring to our market with our partners.
Richard Hanna: Is the Restaurant Manager at Pizzeria Gusto. He has been in the hospitality industry for 18 years. His entry to the industry was learning the bar side at Winnipeg’s staple Exchange District Pub. He then focused on fine dining at the city’s first Manitoba Regional Cuisine restaurant. He was also on the service team at Winnipeg’s first 5 star Restaurant on Corydon Avenue. Richard brings together bar, restaurant and hotel restaurant management experience, and was most recently General Manager at a vibrant Exchange District restaurant. He is also currently aspiring for his diploma level in the Sommelier Program.
